PERIODONTOLOGY (GINGIVA DISEASES)

It is field in relation to inflammatory diseases and their treatments occurring by teeth structures and surrounding tissues. Periodontitis disease is an inflammatory type characterized by teeth and teeth supporting tissues (periodontal ligament, cement, alveole bone) degradations. Gingivitis proceeds to alveol bone (jawbone). Main reason is bacteria plaques, it may be treated mechanically. It may be observed that genetic, environmental and systematic factors may be factors in occurrence reasons of the disease. Epilepsy, diabetes, cardiovascular disease, down syndrome, AIDS and blood diseases may also be counted within systematic factors. Gingival bleedings is the first symptom of common periodontal diseases. Red gingiv has swelling and bright surfaces. Foul breath, itching in gingiva, sense of bleeding, sensitivity in teeth may mostly be added to these symptoms.

 

 

It is observed that periodontal diseases may affect people in every ages from childhood to old age. It may progress without any symptoms since mostly patients do not have compliants such as pain. When the patient has complaint, steady, non-decayed teeth may be lost by shaking due to losses in support tissues. No matter how unhealthy main teeth are, all treatment methods necessary for not having any loss in the teeth of treatment should be applied. At this point, Periodontal treatment becomes a part of the activity. Different treatment methods may be applied according to type and severity of disease. They may primarily be summarized as mouth hygiene training, tartar cleaning, root level straightening, regenerative, reconstructive and mucogingival operations in simple terms. Providing gingiva aesthetic of the individuals, who have high smiling lines, may be added within periodontal treatment. Habits of the patient and cooperation to be made with specialist, mouth hygiene and treatment planning directly affect success. No restorative treatment is applied to periodontal unhealthy teeth.
